Military Prosecutor Reveals Chronology of Four TNI Personnel Throwing Acid at Andrie Yunus
The military prosecutor revealed the chronology of the acid attack on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus during a prosecution hearing at the Military Court II-08 in Jakarta on Wednesday (29/4).
The defendants in this case are Defendant I, Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko; Defendant II, First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi; Defendant III, Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo; and Defendant IV, First Lieutenant Sami Lakka (SL).
The prosecutor stated that the four defendants first encountered Andrie in March 2025 when he forced his way into and interrupted a meeting on revising the TNI Law at a hotel in Jakarta.
“Due to that incident, the defendants considered Andrie Yunus to have insulted the TNI institution, even trampling on the TNI institution,” the prosecutor said.
Then, on 9 March 2026, Defendants I and II met and chatted about their service and personal lives. At that time, Defendant I showed a viral video of Andrie entering and interrupting the TNI Bill revision meeting in 2025.
Their conversation continued on Wednesday, 11 March. At that point, all four defendants gathered in Defendant I’s room.
According to the prosecutor, during the discussion, Defendant I expressed his anger about Andrie Yunus.
“By saying ‘Andrie Yunus forced his way into the Fairmont Jakarta hotel meeting room discussing the TNI Bill, so Andrie Yunus trampled on the TNI institution by having KontraS NGO sue the TNI Law to the Constitutional Court’,” the prosecutor said.
“Additionally, Andrie Yunus accused the TNI of intimidating and terrorising at the KontraS office. The TNI was also accused of being the mastermind or actor in the riot tragedy at the end of August 2025. Andrie Yunus also aggressively promoted an anti-militarism narrative,” the prosecutor added.
At that time, Defendant I said he wanted to punch Andrie Yunus as a lesson and deterrent.
However, Defendant II suggested not punching him but splashing him with rust cleaner instead.
“Defendant I said I’ll do the splashing myself; hearing Defendant II’s idea, Defendant III agreed and said if that’s the case, we’ll do it together,” the prosecutor said.
At that point, Defendant I searched Google for information on Andrie Yunus’s activities. It was learned that Andrie Yunus had a routine Thursday night gathering at Monas.
“Hearing that information, Defendant III said ‘alright then, tomorrow we’ll go to the location and give Andrie Yunus a lesson’,” the prosecutor said.
Then, Defendant III divided the tasks: Defendants I and II would look for Andrie Yunus at the KontraS office, while Defendants III and IV would search at YLBHI.
On Thursday (12/4), the four of them set off on two motorcycles. Defendants I and II rode together, as did Defendants III and IV.
Before leaving the BAIS TNI Mess, Defendant II took an old battery from the corner in front of the toilet. He then poured and mixed battery acid with rust cleaner. The liquid was carried in a tumbler.
Upon arriving at Monas, the defendants did not find Andrie Yunus and continued searching elsewhere.
“Upon arriving at Tugu Tani, Defendants I and II separated from Defendants III and IV. Defendants III and IV headed towards YLBHI, while Defendants I and II went towards Kwitang. However, before the traffic light at Atrium Senen in Central Jakarta, Defendant II turned around and entered a village road to monitor around the KontraS office,” the prosecutor said.
Around 23:00 WIB, Defendants I and II met Defendants III and IV to suggest going home.
Then, as they were about to leave, Defendant III spotted Andrie Yunus riding a motorcycle out of the YLBHI office.
Defendants I and II immediately followed Andrie Yunus, while Defendants III and IV followed from behind.
“At the intersection of Jalan Salemba I and Jalan Talang in Central Jakarta, the motorcycles of Defendants I and II turned around towards Andrie Yunus’s motorcycle, and as Defendant II’s motorcycle slowed down while waiting for Andrie Yunus’s motorcycle to approach,” the prosecutor said.
At that moment, Defendant I splashed the liquid he was carrying onto Andrie Yunus.
“As they passed each other, Defendant I immediately splashed the chemical liquid onto Andrie Yunus’s body, which also splashed onto Defendant I. Defendant I immediately dropped the tumbler bottle and left the scene straight towards RSCM, while Defendants III and IV went straight towards Jalan Pramuka to the BAIS TNI Mess,” he said.
The prosecutor stated that the background for the defendants’ act of splashing chemical liquid on Andrie Yunus was to give him a deterrent lesson so he would not badmouth the TNI.
For their actions, the defendants are charged under Article 469 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code. Subsidiarily, Article 468 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code. Further subsidiarily, Article 467 paragraph (1) in conjunction with paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the Criminal Code.
Former KPK investigator and acid attack victim Novel Baswedan once urged the government to form an independent fact-finding team in the Andrie Yunus case. He feared that if the case was not handled transparently, the perpetrators would receive light sentences and the motive would be portrayed as personal.
“From the beginning, there was concern that the attempted planned murder case against Andrie Yunus would be handled superficially, and the perpetrators would receive light sentences, because the motive was made to seem personal,” Novel said on his X account on 8 April 2026.
“It’s so evil; not only are the perpetrators not prosecuted fully, but the victim is even slandered,” he wrote.
