The defendants did not only violate criminal law but also tarnished the reputation of the TNI institution, specifically the Kopassuna unit where the defendants serve.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Military Prosecutor from the II-07 Jakarta Military Prosecutor’s Office, Major (Chk) Wasinton Marpaung, has demanded prison sentences of four to 12 years for three TNI soldiers involved in the alleged kidnapping and murder of a bank branch manager, identified by the initials MIP (37).

“In relation to this, we request that the defendants in the alleged kidnapping and murder case of a bank branch manager in Jakarta, initials MIP (37), be sentenced to the following criminal penalties,” said Wasinton during the sentencing hearing at the II-08 Jakarta Military Court on Monday.

In the sentencing hearing, the first defendant, Serka Mochamad Nasir, faces a prison sentence of 12 years, minus time already served in detention. The second defendant, Kopda Feri Herianto, is facing 10 years, while the third defendant, Serka Frengky Yaru, is facing four years of imprisonment.

During the trial, the Military Prosecutor stated that the motive behind the crime was the desire to obtain money. “The actions of the defendants contradict the Sapta Marga, the second soldier’s oath, and the seventh of the eight TNI obligations,” said Wasinton.

Furthermore, the defendants’ actions were deemed to have damaged the reputation of the TNI in the eyes of the public, particularly the Kopassus unit where they are stationed. The prosecution also noted that the actions caused profound suffering for the victim’s family, leaving a wife widowed and children fatherless.

An aggravating factor cited was that the defendants have failed to apologise to the victim’s wife or family throughout the legal process. The prosecutor also assessed that the defendants prioritised the desire for money over maintaining their honour as soldiers of the Indonesian Army (TNI AD).

Records show that Serka Mochamad Nasir has participated in four operational duties under the Papua Task Force, Kopda Feri Herianto has served in Poso and Papua twice, and Serka Frengky Yaru has served in Papua four times. For Serka Frengky Yaru, the prosecutor considered a request for leniency from the Head of Logistics for Kopassus, dated 12 May 2026.

The ongoing trial regarding the alleged kidnapping and murder of the bank branch manager, MIP (37), at the II-08 Jakarta Military Court commenced at 2:50 PM WIB. The hearing was presided over by Chief Judge Colonel Chk Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto, with Panel Judges Colonel (L) Desman Wijaya and Lieutenant Colonel Chk Arif Rachman.
