Military police to open special post office box
JAKARTA (JP): The city military police will soon make a special post office box available for those who want to report irregularities or violations committed by Armed Forces members, including the police and military police.
Military Police Chief Brig. Gen. Syamsu D. made the announcement after kicking off a 10-kilometer race yesterday.
"We have asked the public to report any violations conducted by servicemen," he said, without mentioning the exact post office box number.
"Those victimized by Armed Forces members should report to us immediately," he added.
Syamsu, who has served as a member of the President's special guard, said that accurate reports and the identities of the violators are expected.
The post office box is meant to help the military discipline its members, he said.
According to Syamsu, the military discipline drive has been expanded to include all servicemen living in Jakarta and its surrounding areas of Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi.
Syamsu also called on retired servicemen to hand in their guns to his office or to the Military Command.
Eighty-four guns belonging to 17 retired Armed Forces members, including three generals, were handed in on June 10 to the Jakarta Military Command.
Syamsu praised the retired officers, including former vice governor of Jakarta, Maj. Gen. (ret) Eddi M. Nalapraya, who turned their collections in.
"We have also taken measures to monitor city military police officers who are hired to guard public establishment," he said.
"This all parts of the national discipline drive. Military police officers must be the center of discipline and must set a good example for both the military and the public," he said.
A military police corporal told The Jakarta Post over the weekend that he could make an average of Rp 1 million per month moonlighting. (sur)
