Military Police Detachment Speaks Out After Civilian Wounded in Raid on Subsidised Gas Refilling Operation

Video footage circulating on social media described a civilian being shot by members of the Indonesian Army during a raid on a subsidised gas refilling operation in the Cileungsi district of Bogor Regency, West Java. The clip reportedly shows the victim with a shoulder injury.

In response to the viral video, the Commander of Military Police Detachment III/1 Bogor, Lieutenant Colonel Anggi Wahyu Hardiyanto, said the incident occurred on Tuesday 11 May in the early hours. He noted that Pomdam Siliwangi raided the subsidised gas refilling operation which was allegedly backed by personnel of the Indonesian Army (TNI AD).

Regarding the reports of a civilian being shot, he said the person was hit by a ricochet when a warning shot was fired by Pomdam personnel. The victim has received treatment at hospital, and the matter was resolved amicably.

The case of subsidised gas refilling allegedly backed by the TNI AD, he said, is now being handled by Pomdam Siliwangi.

‘What is certain is that this case has been handled by Pomdam Siliwangi in Bandung. The personnel present at the scene were members of Satlak Lidpamfik Pomdam III/Siliwangi,’ Anggi said on Wednesday 20 May, quoted by detik.com.

He explained that the raid on the subsidised gas refilling operation occurred in the early hours of Tuesday. Initially, he said, Pomdam III/Siliwangi personnel followed up on reports of a suspected TNI AD officer shielding the operation.

He said that at the scene, Siliwangi officers faced resistance and were attacked by residents.

‘In short, they (Pomdam III/Siliwangi officers) received information from the community, and from networks, that subsidised gas refilling was allegedly sheltered by a TNI AD official, so they moved there immediately,’ Anggi said.

‘When they arrived, residents suddenly appeared, and the Pomdam officers were set upon.’

Anggi said the Siliwangi detachment subsequently fired a warning shot as they felt compelled. The result was that a civilian was wounded in the shoulder by a ricochet from a Pomdam round.

‘But one civilian was hit by a ricochet or the impact of the shot on the right shoulder,’ Anggi said.

He explained that the wounded civilian has received hospital treatment. The incident has also been resolved amicably.

‘The matter has certainly been resolved amicably as well; treatment has been provided, and the service member has taken responsibility to the community member who was shot,’ Anggi added.
