Military members discharged

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Eight members of the Wirabuana Military Command have been discharged for various crimes over the past four months, an official said here on Wednesday.

The local military police commander Col. Sudirman Panigoro said one of the guilty personnel was a military police officer.

"We are serious in enforcing the law. Anyone who is guilty will be punished," Sudirman said.

However he failed to identify the soldiers and the crimes they committed.

Sudirman said that of 164 criminal cases committed by the servicemen this year, car and motorbike thefts topped the list with 23 cases. Other cases included drug abuse and desertion. (27/08)
