Military Headquarters Opens Internal Inquiry into Caustic Liquid Attack on KontraS Activist
Jakarta — The alleged involvement of Indonesian military (TNI) personnel in the caustic liquid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus is being taken seriously, with the Military Headquarters confirming it has opened an internal investigation to verify publicly circulating information.
The step was taken following the emergence of public opinion linking the suspected perpetrators to the TNI institution. TNI Spokesperson Head, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, stressed that an internal response has been initiated since the incident first occurred.
“We see there is opinion circulating in society that the perpetrators allegedly come from the TNI. I must clarify that since the incident occurred, the TNI has responded by conducting an internal investigation,” Nasrullah told reporters on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
He emphasised that the investigation would be conducted professionally and openly to address the speculation developing within society.
“Naturally, we do not want this developing opinion to remain mere speculation. Our hope is that we will present the findings afterwards,” he said.
The internal investigation process involves several legal divisions within the TNI. The results will be reviewed comprehensively and linked with the ongoing legal process at the National Police.
“This will naturally involve several units. As we understand, with the internal investigation that we will conduct, we will then see how the results relate to the opinion that has developed in society,” he stated.
Nasrullah affirmed that the handling is being carried out by competent authorities within the TNI.
“We will see, because once again, we from the TNI also have legal apparatus as I explained earlier, and this is being handled by competent authorities within the TNI,” he added.
Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a thorough investigation into the caustic liquid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus to be conducted professionally, transparently and using scientific investigation methods.
“Regarding the development of the activist attack, I have received direct orders from the President to carry out a thorough investigation conducted professionally and transparently,” Sigit said while inspecting Gubeng Station in Surabaya on Sunday.
He explained that the investigation process is being conducted using a scientific crime investigation approach to ensure that each stage of the case handling is carried out objectively and based on evidence.
