Jakarta – The Indonesian Military Headquarters (Mabes TNI) has expressed deep condolences over the passing of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, General (Retired) Try Sutrisno, who died on Monday, 2 March 2026.

“The TNI expresses profound grief over the death of the late gentleman,” said TNI Press Office Chief Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah to Kompas.com on Monday.

The military headquarters prayed that Try Sutrisno would be granted a place beside the Almighty and that the bereaved family would be given sincerity and patience.

Try Sutrisno passed away at RSPAD Gatot Subroto military hospital on Monday morning. The family stated that Try Sutrisno had no specific medical history that directly caused his death on 2 March 2026.

Try’s son, Taufik Dwi Cahyono, indicated that his father’s health had deteriorated due to advanced age, having reached 90 years old.

“My father’s condition was due to his age; everything declines at that point. At that age, there was no specific serious illness – it was simply age-related decline, affecting his breathing capacity and such,” Taufik said at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto on Monday.

“He had been admitted since 16 February. His appetite suddenly decreased, so we brought him in. His condition fluctuated; he was given medication and food,” Taufik explained.

Taufik stated that RSPAD medical teams and presidential staff had provided the best possible medical care to Try.
