The defense ministers of Ukraine and Indonesia, Valery Shmarov
(left) and Edi Sudradjat (second left) , signed a memorandum on
military and armament cooperation Monday in Kiev, the Interfax
news agency reported. The visit of the Indonesian minister
"testifies to the development of the relations which were
launched during the visit of Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma to
Indonesia" earlier this year, Shmarov said. "All the premises
exist that two neutral states with no contradictions can develop
their cooperation on the basis of mutual interest," Shmarov
added. Sudradjat, who arrived in Kiev on Sunday, was also to meet
with President Kuchma and other top officials of Ukraine. During
his three-day-visit he is also to tour a shipyard in Feodosia on
the Crimea peninsula which produces jetfoil ships. (DPA)
