Military Command's anniversary

JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Military Command will hold a score of
war games and sports competitions to commemorate its 48th
anniversary, which falls on Dec. 24.

The command's inspector, Col. Tagor Sihombing, said yesterday
that the first events included shooting, cross-country, speed
marching and swimming.

Only command personnel are permitted to take part in the war
games, which started Monday, Sihombing said.

Members of the public as well as soldiers could participate in
the sports contests, which include volley ball, tennis and
boxing, he said.

"Winners of these events will receive trophies from Jakarta
military commander."

He said the sports events were aimed at evaluating the
soldiers' readiness for future challenging tasks, especially the
March general session of People's Consultative Assembly. (jun)
