Military Commander Always Receives Counsel from Try Sutrisno at Every Meeting

Jakarta — Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto remembered the 6th Vice President of Indonesia and former ABRI Commander General Try Sutrisno (retired) as an exemplary soldier who never ceased to offer counsel for the advancement of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) institution.

Agus stated that Try Sutrisno consistently provided guidance for the benefit of TNI whenever the two met.

“In every meeting with me, he always offered counsel for the good of TNI,” Agus told Kompas.com on Monday (2 March 2026).

According to Agus, Try was a soldier characterised by discipline, focus, and served as a role model for succeeding generations of TNI.

The deceased was noted as continuing to make efforts to attend various TNI activities.

“And the deceased always attended whenever there were TNI activities, even though he had to be assisted in walking,” recalled the Military Commander.

Agus stated that Try’s death represented a significant loss for TNI.

He expressed deep condolences over Try Sutrisno’s passing.

“On behalf of the extended TNI family, I express my deepest condolences on the passing of General Try Sutrisno (retired),” said Agus.

Based on information received, Try Sutrisno passed away at RSPAD (Armed Forces Hospital) at 06:58 WIB.

According to plan, the deceased’s body was to be prayed over at Sunda Kelapa Mosque and buried at the Heroes’ Cemetery (Taman Makam Pahlawan) Kalibata later that day.
