He gained public recognition as Commander of Jakarta Military Command (Kodam Jaya), demonstrating strong leadership in maintaining stability in the capital during a critical political transition. His career advanced further when he was appointed Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Kostrad), solidifying his reputation as a field general deeply concerned with troop welfare and unit combat readiness. He reached the pinnacle of his military career when appointed Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD) from 2002 to 2005.
