Militants attack Kashmir
SRINAGAR, India (Reuters): Suspected separatist guerrillas fired grenades at a government-controlled Kashmir television center on Saturday, police said, a day before U.S. President Bill Clinton was due to arrive in New Delhi.
The assault took place in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. There were no reports of casualties or damage, a police spokesman said.
"Militants fired five grenades towards Doordarshan Srinagar station; three of the grenades exploded near it," he said, adding no one had claimed responsibility for the attack.
Nearly a dozen militant groups are fighting New Delhi's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, India's only Moslem majority state.
Separatists in Kashmir have urged Clinton to visit the strife- torn state next week and have called a one-day strike on March 22 to attract attention to the Kashmir issue.
