Migrant workers still at home

SALATIGA, Central Java: Three of 36 prospective migrant
workers from Madiun have reported their labor export firm to the
police because they have been waiting to take up employment since
last August, Antara reported on Wednesday.

"The women paid Rp 3.2 million per person, while the men have
paid Rp 6.5 million per person," Haryanto, one of the workers,
said.

They said the company was based in Suruh in Semarang.

Police said they would soon summon the director of the
company, only identified as PT M.

On Tuesday the Jakarta-based Women's Solidarity group also
demanded that the Minister of Manpower immediately urge a firm
based in Jambi to realize its promise to send 103 migrant workers
to Malaysia. (anr)
