Migor Acquittal Case: Sentence for Ex-Wilmar Official Increased to 8 Years Imprisonment

The Jakarta High Court (PT DKI Jakarta) has intensified the sentence for M Syafei, the former Head of Social Security and License at Wilmar Group, in the bribery case concerning the acquittal verdict for the cooking oil (migor) matter against the corporate defendant. Syafei’s punishment has been increased from 6 to 8 years in prison.

The appeal decision for M Syafei was handed down on Monday (20/4/2026). The appeal was heard by a panel of judges chaired by Subachran Hardi Mulyono, with members Edi Hasmi and Sondang Marapaung.

“Amending the decision of the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court dated 3 March 2026 Number 109/Pid.Sus.TPK/2024/PN Jkt.Pst, which was appealed, insofar as it concerns the duration of the prison sentence and the amount of the fine imposed,” stated the judge while reading the appeal decision.

The judges stated that Syafei was not proven to have committed the crime of money laundering (TPPU), but was proven to have committed the crime of aiding in giving bribes. The judges increased Syafei’s sentence to 8 years in prison and a fine of Rp 500 million.

“Imposing on the Defendant M Syafei, therefore, a prison sentence of 8 years and a fine of Rp 500,000,000 to be paid within a period of 1 month, which may be extended for a maximum of 1 month from the date the decision gains legal force,” said the judge.

“Stipulating that if the fine is not paid within the specified period, the convict’s assets or income may be seized and auctioned to settle the unpaid fine. If the proceeds from the seizure and auction of assets or income are insufficient or not feasible, the unpaid fine shall be replaced with imprisonment for 140 days,” added the judge.

Previously, M Syafei was sentenced to 6 years in prison in the bribery case for the cooking oil acquittal verdict. The judges stated that Syafei was guilty of assisting Marcella Santoso and others in bribing the panel of judges to impose an acquittal on the corporate defendant.

“Declaring the above Defendant M Syafei proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing the crime of aiding in giving bribes jointly,” said the chief judge Efendi while reading the decision’s operative part at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (3/3).

“Imposing on the Defendant, therefore, a prison sentence of 6 years,” added the judge.

The judges also fined Syafei Rp 300 million. If the fine is not paid, it will be replaced with imprisonment for 100 days.
