MiG monument inaugurated

UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal
Rilo Pambudi has inaugurated a new monument in the front yard of
the Air Force Base -- an old Russian-built MiG 17 fighter jet.

The plane belonged to the squadron that was used as part of
the Indonesian campaign to wrestle Irian Jaya from Dutch hands in
the early 1960s, Antara reported.

Rilo said that the new monument is dedicated to the South
Sulawesi people for their support during the Irian Jaya war.

The adjacent Hasanuddin airport was used as a base from which
the air operation was launched. (05)
