Mien R Uno Launches 'Self-Reflection' Book at 85

Amidst a warm atmosphere filled with familial closeness and reflections on life’s journey, etiquette figure and character development expert Mien R Uno officially launched her latest literary work. The book, titled ‘Self-Reflection: When We Can See Ourselves in Others’, was introduced to the public at the At-Taqwa Sriwijaya Hall in Jakarta on Friday, 29 May 2026.

The launch event was particularly special as it coincided with Mien R Uno’s 85th birthday celebration. Though modestly observed, the occasion carried profound meaning regarding sincerity and courage in reflecting on one’s life path.

In her speech, Mien R Uno emphasised that the book is a special offering to Indonesia’s youth. She hopes young people can draw valuable lessons, both from their own experiences and by observing others’ life journeys.

‘Young generations must learn about what they go through or learn through others’ experiences. I want them to learn to accept themselves for what they have now,’ Mien said with deep insight.

She also shared reflections on the essence of happiness and the presence of close loved ones. According to her, even in the toughest times, there are always sincere individuals who remain steadfast in listening and supporting.

‘One or two people will always stay close to our hearts and listen to our complaints,’ she added.

Mien R Uno’s son, Sandiaga Uno, who attended the event, could not hide his emotional pride. To Sandiaga, his mother is a consistent source of inspiration, always teaching the values of sincerity in every step of life.

‘This book is not about those who think they are the smartest, but about the courage to be honest about one’s life journey. A mother’s strength isn’t always visible in her words, but in her sincerity in living life,’ Sandiaga said.

He also stressed that the event was not merely a birthday celebration, but an expression of gratitude for a long life and the opportunity to continue contributing positively to the nation.

The book adopts a reflective and humanistic approach to personal development, encouraging readers to build more meaningful relationships with others through honest self-understanding.
