Midwife Found Dead in Situbondo Drainage Canal, Suspected Murder
The Situbondo Resort Police in East Java are handling a suspected murder case involving a midwife who was found dead in a drainage canal in the Banyuglugur District, Situbondo Regency, on Saturday night, 6 June 2026.
The victim has been identified as Murtafia Rafika Devi (34), a resident of Besuki Village, Situbondo Regency. Her body was discovered in the drainage system along the North Coast (Pantura) route in Kalianget Village, Banyuglugur District. The deceased was evacuated to the dr. Abdoer Rahem Situbondo Regional Hospital at approximately 21:00 WIB.
“It is true that the victim’s body was evacuated at around 21:00 WIB and taken to the dr. Abdoer Rahem Situbondo Regional Hospital,” said the Head of the Banyuglugur Sector Police, Assistant Commissioner Teguh Santoso, in Situbondo on Saturday night.
He explained that personnel from the Banyuglugur Police Station had secured the scene and accompanied the Identification Team (Inafis) from the Situbondo Police Criminal Investigation Unit to conduct a forensic examination of the crime scene.
“The Inafis Team from the Situbondo Police Criminal Investigation Unit has conducted the scene investigation, after which the victim’s body was transported to the hospital,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Director of Besuki Regional Hospital, Dr Imam Haryono, confirmed that the victim was one of the midwives working at the hospital. “Based on information from hospital staff, the victim was still at work on Friday night, 5 June, before being found dead,” said Imam.
