Middle East War Update: US Shoots Down Iranian Drone in Hormuz, Israel Attacks Lebanon Again
Tensions in the Middle East have risen again after the United States military announced the shooting down of two Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, Israel launched new attacks on several areas in southern Lebanon, killing three high-ranking military personnel.
The US military stated that both drones were shot down because they were deemed a threat to international shipping traffic in one of the world’s most vital energy trade routes. Meanwhile, Israeli attacks were also reported to have killed at least eight Palestinians in a refugee camp in Gaza City.
Amidst the increasing escalation, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, delivered a message from Islamabad to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. Pakistan has once again called for an end to the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Iran stated that its recent attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait were a response to US attacks on Iranian coastal territory. Tehran also criticised Washington, claiming it has shown no sincerity in reducing tensions. “We condemn the lack of will from the United States to reduce tensions and return to the path of stability,” the Iranian government stated.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), Israeli attacks continued throughout the night until Sunday morning. Airstrikes reportedly hit Qalawiya City at dawn, as well as the al-Qatrani, Byblos, and Rihan areas in the Jezzine District. Additionally, Deir Kifa in the Tyre District was targeted by Israeli bombing, while the Barashit and Chaqra regions experienced periodic artillery fire throughout the night. NNA also reported artillery attacks in the towns of al-Mansouri and Bayt al-Sayyad in the Tyre District.
These latest developments indicate that the regional security situation remains far from stable, despite efforts by several nations to promote diplomatic channels. Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia have condemned Iran’s attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, calling for restraint from all parties to prevent a wider regional conflict.
As of now, there are no signs of easing tensions between Iran, the US, and Israel, as fighting continues on several fronts. Iranian military advisor Mohsen Rezaei stated that Tehran is prepared to launch a major attack if Israel enters southern Beirut, the primary base of Hezbollah. Meanwhile, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem firmly rejected proposals for disarmament and the withdrawal of forces from the Litani River, asserting that resistance will continue.
