Middle East Tensions: Garuda Indonesia Suspends Flights to and from Doha
Garuda Indonesia has temporarily suspended flights to and from Doha, Qatar, in response to heightened tensions in the Middle East following military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel. The decision was made as a precautionary measure following the temporary closure of Qatari airspace due to escalating regional tensions.
“Garuda is temporarily suspending flights to and from Doha, Qatar, effective 28 February 2026 until further notice,” Garuda Indonesia stated in a post on its X account on Sunday, 1 March 2026.
The airline confirmed that other international routes remain operational and are ensured not to pass through affected airspace. The public has been advised to regularly check Garuda Indonesia flight schedules via the airline’s website and contact channels.
“Garuda Indonesia will continue to monitor the situation development closely. Passengers affected are urged to regularly check flight schedules through the 24-hour contact centre at 021 2351 9999/0804 1 807 807 or via garudaindonesia.com,” the statement continued.
Tensions in the Middle East escalated following military strikes on Iran by US and Israeli forces on Saturday, 28 February. Explosions were reported in Tehran in the early morning local time.
Shortly thereafter, a wave of airspace closures occurred across several regional nations. According to Flightradar24 data, Iran closed its entire airspace on Saturday, 28 February, at least until 12:00 UTC.
Beyond Iran, several other countries have taken similar action. As of the latest reports, the following airspace has been completely closed:
Iran
Iraq
Kuwait
Bahrain
Qatar
Airspace in Jordan and Israel has also been reported as nearly empty, with only a few remaining flights landing or rerouting away from the affected area.
