Middle East Escalation: Prabowo Emphasises National Unity as Cornerstone for Protecting Indonesia's Sovereignty
Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto has reminded the nation that amid escalating warfare in the Middle East’s Gulf region, national unity and harmony represent the primary foundation for safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Indonesia.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, when reached in Jakarta on Wednesday, explained that President Prabowo conveyed this message whilst delivering remarks at a state-level Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration for the year 1447 H/2026 M at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday evening (10 March).
“In his remarks, President Prabowo Subianto also highlighted current global conditions characterised by uncertainty and various challenges that could threaten world peace. In responding to such circumstances, the Head of State emphasised that the Indonesian nation must continue to strengthen unity and harmony as the primary foundation for facing various global challenges,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
President Prabowo subsequently reiterated his position in responding to escalation in the Middle East, namely protecting all Indonesian citizens and maintaining national cohesion.
“The Head of State again emphasised his responsibility as head of state to protect all Indonesian citizens and maintain national unity,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
In his remarks at the event, President Prabowo stated: “As President of the Republic of Indonesia, I am always mindful of the duty bestowed upon me, namely to protect all of the Indonesian archipelago and all Indonesian citizens.”
Regarding Nuzulul Qur’an, President Prabowo similarly invited all Indonesians to use the commemoration as an opportunity to strengthen faith and as inspiration for nurturing national unity.
“The commemoration represents a spiritual moment for the Indonesian nation to strengthen the values of the Qur’an in social, national, and state life,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy.
The Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday evening was attended by President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as well as leaders of state institutions including House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani, Regional Representative Council Chair Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, and members of the Red and White Cabinet.
