Middle East Conflict Escalates, PIS Monitors Four Vessels and Workers
JAKARTA — PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) continues to conduct intensive monitoring of its entire fleet and the safety of its personnel operating in the Middle East region, following escalating conflict in the area.
Currently, four PIS vessels are positioned in the Middle East: the Gamsunoro, which is undergoing loading operations at Khor al Zubair in Iraq; the Rinjani, anchored at Khor Fakkan in the UAE; and the Paragon, discharging cargo in Oman.
Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, stated that the company maintains a regional office in Dubai, known as PIS Middle East (PIS ME), currently staffed by 30 personnel and their families.
The company’s primary focus remains ensuring the safety of all workers and ship crews, as well as the security of its fleet operating along strategic shipping routes. Workers have heeded advisories from the Indonesian Embassy to heighten vigilance, conduct regular check-ins, and contact the embassy hotline or consular offices in the event of any emergency situations.
Regarding the four vessels, Vega confirmed that the company continuously monitors their security status in real time. PIS is also proactively coordinating with ship management companies and local maritime authorities to enhance safety measures. The company maintains intensive communication with and adheres to directives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, and the Indonesian Consulate General in Dubai.
Whilst monitoring developments around the clock, the company is working to facilitate the swift departure of its vessels from the Gulf region. “Our fleet team is currently maintaining close communication with management to coordinate and ensure the safety of our crews and vessels,” Vega explained.
