Middle East Boils Over: Iran Bombards Arab Nations After US Strike
The situation in the Middle East is heating up again after the United States launched strikes on several provinces in southern Iran. Multiple foreign media outlets are reporting that Iran retaliated by firing a salvo of missiles at several Arab nations where US military facilities and bases are located.
Quoting AFP, reports indicate attacks occurred in Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait. US military bases are located in eight Arab countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, and Syria.
In Bahrain, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it had attacked the US base in the country following the American assault on the Islamic Republic. Washington earlier claimed it carried out a proportional strike related to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz.
‘The war-mongering US regime attacked several points in Jask, Sirik, and Qeshm this morning under false pretexts, damaging a telecommunications tower in Sirik and destroying two water tanks in the city,’ the IRGC said in a statement quoted by Iranian media.
‘In response to the enemy’s heinous act, IRGC navy fighter jets launched a drone attack against the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain at 02:30 am [2300 GMT Tuesday],’ it added, warning of a ‘harsher response’ should the attacks continue.
Shortly after the Bahrain incident, the IRGC also reported attacking four targets at a US base in Jordan. Iranian forces said they targeted and destroyed four main objectives, including a nest of F-35 fighter jets at the air base and a US military command and control centre.
‘The attack was carried out with long-range missiles,’ the IRGC added.
Meanwhile, Kuwait also reported an attack on its territory. The Kuwaiti army said their air defences intercepted a hostile aerial target.
Earlier, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) began launching self-defence strikes against Iran on the instruction of President Donald Trump. Several media outlets also reported multiple explosions in Iran. IRIB, for instance, captured footage of a massive blast shaking a province near the Strait of Hormuz, Qeshm.
‘Six explosions were heard in Qeshm, Strait of Hormuz, as Trump bombs Iran in a proportional response,’ posted Russian outlet RT.
Meanwhile, explosions were also heard in several locations in Hormozgan Province, local media reported. Some reported the presence of US fighter jets.
