Jakarta (ANTARA) - Microsoft has stated that its artificial intelligence (AI) service Copilot is intended only for entertainment purposes in its terms of use.

Cited from TechCrunch on Monday, this has come under scrutiny amid the company’s efforts to promote Copilot adoption for productivity needs.

In the terms of use document last updated on 24 October 2025, Microsoft warns that Copilot may make mistakes and may not always function as expected.

Microsoft also advises users not to rely on the service for advice on crucial matters.

“Copilot is intended only for entertainment purposes. This service may make mistakes and may not always function as it should. Do not rely on Copilot for important advice. Use Copilot at your own risk,” the statement reads.

The statement has sparked public backlash, particularly because Microsoft is currently encouraging corporate customers to use Copilot as an AI-based work assistance tool.

In response, a Microsoft spokesperson stated that the phrase “for entertainment purposes” is outdated language that no longer reflects Copilot’s current function. The company will update the terms in the next revision.

“As the product evolves, that terminology no longer reflects how Copilot is used today and will be changed in the next update,” the Microsoft spokesperson said.
