Microsoft to open in RI
MANILA (AFP): Microsoft Corp. said yesterday it will set up
subsidiaries in the Philippines and Indonesia this year to market
its new products, including the much-awaited release in August of
its Windows 95 operating system.
The U.S. software giant will also open a representative office
in Vietnam later this year, Microsoft regional director Jeff Lum
told reporters.
Microsoft is to invest US$500,000 in the Philippine
subsidiary, which will also be engaged in training and in curbing
software piracy, he added.
He gave no details for the planned Jakarta subsidiary.
Lum said Microsoft dominates the Philippines' licensed
software market with a 95 percent share in the personal computer
segment.
