Microsoft Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 Official, Featuring Intel Panther Lake Processor
Microsoft has officially launched the latest generation of its Surface devices, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 8 and the Microsoft Surface Pro 12. In the initial phase, Microsoft released only the ‘for Business’ variant. The consumer model and the Snapdragon X2-based version from Qualcomm are expected to follow in the second half of 2026. The new devices bring several improvements, including a processor from Intel’s Core Ultra Series 3, released in early 2026. The CPUs are codenamed ‘Panther Lake’ and it is Intel’s first consumer processor produced using the Intel 18A (Angstrom) process, i.e., 1.8 nm manufacturing. In addition, other enhancements include up to 64 GB RAM, a 120 Hz display, and a privacy screen feature similar to Privacy Display on Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. The Microsoft Surface Laptop for Business (eighth generation) comes in three screen sizes: 13 inches, 13.8 inches, and 15 inches. The consumer Surface version is a traditional clamshell laptop. The 13.8-inch and 15-inch models use an IPS ‘PixelSense Flow’ panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Specifically, for the 15-inch model, the screen resolution has been increased to 3,270 x 2,180 pixels, raising pixel density from 201 PPI to 262 PPI. Microsoft says OLED models will be released in the coming months. The 13.8-inch and 15-inch models also include an optional built-in privacy screen, claimed to be similar to the Privacy Display technology on Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. This feature narrows the viewing angle so that the contents are not easily visible to people nearby, and the privacy screen can be activated via the F1 key. Besides the screen and privacy features, another major upgrade is in performance. The Surface Laptop 8 moves from the Lunar Lake to Intel Panther Lake. The laptop will be available up to the Intel Core Ultra X7 368H configuration, which includes the integrated Intel Arc B390 GPU.
