Microsoft announces $17.9 billion US investment in AI infrastructure in Australia
Sydney (ANTARA) - Microsoft announced on Thursday that it will invest $17.9 billion US (1 US dollar = Rp17,179) in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in Australia over the next three years, representing the technology giant’s largest investment in the country to date.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the $25 billion Australian (1 Australian dollar = Rp12,315), or approximately $17.9 billion US, investment in Sydney.
Nadella stated that the investment will expand Microsoft’s AI supercomputing and cloud infrastructure and strengthen Australia’s cyber defences.
The commitment includes funding for data centres, AI skills training for 3 million Australian workers, and expanded collaboration between Microsoft and the Australian Federal Government in cybersecurity and national resilience.
“Australia has tremendous opportunities to convert AI into real economic growth and social benefits. That is why we are making our largest investment in Australia to date,” said Nadella.
Albanese said that Microsoft’s commitment will help Australia harness the economic opportunities from AI while protecting itself from its various risks.
