Jakarta — Technology giants Arm, Microsoft, Google and Amazon Web Services are working with Indonesia to develop the semiconductor industry and digital infrastructure, including tools to improve people’s everyday lives.

“Our chip designers and AI researchers can now work with Arm, Microsoft, Google and Amazon Web Services in semiconductors and digital infrastructure, building tools to help teachers teach, doctors diagnose and businesses become more productive,” Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto said at the Danantara Technology Innovation Investment Forum 2026 in Jakarta on Monday (26 October 2026).

He also said he wanted domestic universities to be able to work with Danantara and industry, with higher education and science expected to have a major impact on industry.

The partnerships are already under way. Brian said state electricity company PLN and energy researchers had worked with organisations including CTL and Siemens on cheaper, smarter electricity grids.

Some universities and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) are also working with Oxford Maritimes to develop more efficient ships. “We hope all of this can build a knowledge- and technology-based industry in Indonesia,” Brian said.

Brian also cited President Prabowo Subianto’s call for international partners to come to Indonesia and collaborate, invest and manufacture products domestically.

“Work with Indonesia’s outstanding talent to build industries that will serve the public and be able to compete globally,” he said.

Prabowo’s ambition is for Indonesia to create, master and manufacture technology. The country’s development, Brian said, should be driven not only by its natural resources and large market, but also by higher productivity and stronger industry.

“Our natural resources and large market give us opportunities, but lasting prosperity depends on what our people can do with them: achieve higher productivity, build stronger industries and ultimately deliver better incomes for our people,” Brian said.
