During the commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2026, a teacher at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Bahrul Ulum Kusamba in Klungkung, Bali, has called for the PPPK (Government Employee with Work Agreement) selection to be opened promptly for honorary teachers in private schools. Amid efforts to enhance education quality, the welfare of teachers in private schools is also seen as a key pillar. MI Bahrul Ulum Kusamba recently obtained its operational permit in 2023. Currently, it has three classes (grades 1-3) with a total of 38 students. The head of MI Bahrul Ulum, Musa Bahar, explained that out of the seven teachers, only one is certified. The madrasah, established under the auspices of Yayasan Al Mahdi in Kampung Desa Kusamba, Dawan Subdistrict, is a school founded to facilitate access to education for children in Kampung Kusamba, where the majority are Muslim. “Besides continuously striving to prioritise quality, we have high hopes that regulations allow private school teachers to apply for PPPK positions. While we keep fighting, on the other hand, we also want some form of recognition,” said Bahar to detikBali on Saturday (2/5/2026). Bahar, who currently holds certified teacher status, hopes for equal regulations between public and private school teachers. In whatever form, he stated he would accept regulations that do not belittle private schools. He even emphasised that the government should open the selection or through a competitive system. “We are ready for the competitive path. Let it be opened publicly and selected,” he clarified. Pioneering a New School in the Village MI Bahrul Ulum is the first formal educational institution built by Yayasan Al Mahdi. Before the MI, the foundation established a TPQ in the afternoon and diniyah in the evening. The challenges of building a new school are certainly not few. Besides limited budget, Bahar explained that they also had to gain the trust of the community. And besides adequate facilities, teacher competence is also a primary one. On the other hand, the presence of the madrasah in Kampung Kusamba is said to be a spark for the youth and next generation involved in education to return to their village. “I previously taught in Denpasar. 15 years away from my hometown. And now I can return because of this madrasah. This also becomes a spark for the generation who are in the education field but lack access to work in their hometown,” explained Bahar. At the same location, Chairman of Yayasan Al Mahdi, H Mugni, explained that while pioneering MI Bahrul Ulum, which this year becomes four classes, he is also preparing to build a Madrasah Tsanawiyah. “The hope is that our children in Kampung Kusamba do not have to go far to school,” clarified Mugni.
