MH Thamrin Journalism Award 2026 Introduces New Category
The Mohammad Hoesni Thamrin (MHT) Journalism Award 2026 has introduced a new category titled Bank Jakarta Financial Literacy. This special category is the result of a collaboration between the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Jaya and Bank Jakarta to encourage the creation of journalistic works that raise issues of financial literacy and the role of the banking sector in regional development.
The Chairman of PWI Jaya, Kesit B Handoyo, stated that the addition of the new category is an effort to broaden the thematic scope of the annual journalism event, which has served as a platform for appreciating media professionals. Through this category, he expressed hope that journalists will produce works that are not only of high quality but also capable of providing a broader understanding of banking’s contribution to economic development.
‘The press has an important role in conveying accurate, educational, and beneficial information to the public,’ Kesit said in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/6/2026).
According to him, the new category will also open up space for journalists to explore various issues, ranging from the digital transformation of banking and the empowerment of MSMEs to the contribution of financial institutions in supporting Jakarta’s economic growth. He noted that many aspects of these issues remain unexplored.
Meanwhile, Bank Jakarta President Director Agus H Widodo welcomed the introduction of the category. He believes the media plays a crucial role in conveying information that can improve public understanding of financial services.
‘Through this competition, we hope to see the emergence of various works that can objectively depict the various innovations, programmes, and contributions of Bank Jakarta to the community and regional economic development,’ Agus said.
