MH Thamrin building conferred to city
The heir of national hero Mohammad Husni Thamrin, Mrs. Dee Zubaida Dimyati Thamrin, handed over the management and ownership of the Mohammad Husni Thamrin building on Jl. Kenari II No. 15, Central Jakarta, to the city administration.
The handing over of the historical building was done during a ceremony presided over by Governor Surjadi Soedirdja at City Hall on Friday.
With the transfer of its ownership, the building is legally under the management of the City Museum Office.
Husni Thamrin, whose name graces one of the capital's main thoroughfares and a major kampong improvement project, was a native of Jakarta. He was officially recognized as a national hero for his struggle for Indonesian Independence.
Dirman Surachmat, the head of the City Museum Office, said the building was used as the headquarters of the Permufakatan Perhimpunan Politik Kebangsaan Indonesia association, one of the numerous parties striving for Indonesian Independence. It was chaired by Husni Thamrin during the final years of the Dutch colonial period.
In honor of the national hero, the building was declared as historical structure by the city administration through a gubernatorial decree in 1972. (arf)
