Mexico sends fifth ship carrying humanitarian aid to Cuba
Mexico City (ANTARA) - Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday (11/5) that Mexico is sending the fifth ship carrying humanitarian aid to Cuba in response to the increasing shortages faced by the Cuban people.
In her morning press conference, Sheinbaum reiterated Mexico’s rejection of the economic, trade, and financial blockade imposed by Washington on Cuba since 1962.
“We will continue to send humanitarian aid. In fact, a ship carrying humanitarian aid is departing for Cuba today. Mexico will always demonstrate brotherhood and solidarity with all countries in the world, especially with Cuba,” Sheinbaum stated.
Mexico’s humanitarian aid does not include oil, given that Russia has supplied those resources to Cuba, she said.
She added that Mexico is focusing on providing other essential goods to alleviate the shortages of basic necessities.
In recent weeks, the United States government has issued two executive orders to intensify sanctions against Cuba, blocking Cuba’s access to needed fuel and imposing sanctions on several Cuban companies.
