Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Sunday reaffirmed her rejection of foreign interference in Mexico’s internal affairs during a general meeting at Zocalo Square, Mexico City, marking the conclusion of her national accountability tour.

“No foreign power, no economic or political elite has the right to dictate the present and the future of our homeland. It belongs solely to the Mexican people,” Sheinberum told thousands of supporters gathered in the capital’s main square.

Sheinbaum linked the defence of national sovereignty to what her administration calls the “Fourth Transformation”, a political project initiated by her predecessor, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, which aims to reshape Mexico’s development model by prioritising social welfare, equality, and national sovereignty.

Sheinbaum stated that the ongoing transformation in her country follows the historical path of the struggle for independence and social change. She referred to significant periods, including the Mexican War of Independence, the Reform era of the 19th century, and the Mexican Revolution, when the Mexican people fought to maintain national sovereignty and sought political and social reforms.

Accompanied by Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada and members of her cabinet, Sheinbaum also highlighted what she described as her administration’s achievements in various fields, such as social welfare programmes, infrastructure, the economy, and security.

Sheinbaum noted that approximately 850,000 people participated in public meetings held during her series of visits to 32 federal entities across Mexico.
