Mexican President Affirms Rejection of Foreign Interference in Internal Affairs

Mexico City (ANTARA) - Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Monday (14/9) local time reaffirmed her government’s stance of rejecting any interference by foreign parties in the country’s domestic affairs.

She also said diplomatic relations with the United States should be treated as coordination, not subordination.

Speaking at her daily press briefing, Sheinbaum criticised parties she said were supporting foreign intervention, including certain circles in the United States and opposition groups in Mexico.

“We will always uphold the principle that there should never be intervention or interference, only coordination without subordination,” she said.

“That will always be our position, as a matter of principle, history, conviction, and constitutional mandate,” Sheinbaum added.

Citing a poll showing that 91 per cent of respondents reject foreign interference, Sheinbaum said it was important “to question who benefits from the spread of the idea that Mexican citizens think otherwise,” while pointing the finger at certain circles in the United States and right-wing media that are pushing an interventionist agenda.
