The spirit of gotong royong and togetherness is being shown by residents of Dusun Pante Geulima, Desa Meunasah Lhok, Kecamatan Meureudu, Kabupaten Pidie Jaya, in efforts to accelerate environmental recovery post-disaster. Residents, along with government elements, continue to work on cleaning affected areas in stages.

This effort is key to entering the post-disaster rehabilitation phase, which is currently being intensified by the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) following the Sumatra disaster.

Additionally, support is coming from expatriate residents who are contributing to speed up the recovery process. Local resident Ahlul Fikri stated that this synergy is the main strength in accelerating village recovery.

“Alhamdulillah, currently there are two forms of support running simultaneously. First from the government through the community work programme, and second from donations by expatriate friends who are helping, including for hiring transportation fleets,” said Fikri in a written statement on Friday (3/4/2026).

“The most important thing for us is togetherness. With support from all parties, we are confident that Pante Geulima can rise and recover as before,” he added.

This cleaning activity involves collaboration between the community and government through a community work programme facilitated by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on Thursday (2/4).

He added that active community participation is strong evidence that residents have high spirits to rise and restore the village’s condition to its original state.

The community work programme not only impacts the acceleration of environmental cleaning but also provides economic benefits to affected residents. Each worker receives a daily wage that helps meet families’ basic needs amid the ongoing recovery phase.

One resident, Halimah, admitted to being greatly helped by the activity. She, along with other residents, participated in cleaning public facilities such as the musala and environmental sanitation.

“Alhamdulillah, very helpful. Besides being able to join in cleaning, we also get income for daily needs and for children still in school,” said Halimah.

She also hopes that such activities can continue, so that more residents can get involved and feel the benefits.

Currently, dozens of residents are involved in the cleaning activities carried out in shifts. This reflects the spirit of togetherness as well as fairness in sharing work opportunities.

With the ongoing collaboration between the community, government, and donors, Pante Geulima residents are optimistic that the recovery process will proceed more quickly. This spirit of togetherness becomes the main capital to return the village’s condition to being comfortable and habitable again.
