Metro Police Warn Traders Selling Gelonggongan Cattle Could Be Prosecuted
“If we say it is gelonggongan cattle crime, the crime is how the body size or weight of the cattle is engineered by giving water,” said Victor after checking sacrificial animals at Perumda Dharma Jaya, East Jakarta, on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
Victor said the police had previously encountered similar cases. He hoped the practice would not recur at this year’s Idul Adha.
“Indeed, some time ago we also found related crimes. This is a crime against animals. It is, of course, regulated in the new Criminal Code (KUHP) related to that crime,” he said.
Polda Metro Jaya also urged the public to monitor and report if they find indications of gelonggongan cattle in the field. According to Victor, one characteristic that can be recognised usually appears during the slaughtering process.
“We also hope the public can report if there is any information or if they encounter suspicious cattle. Because when slaughtered, there tends to be a lot of water,” he explained.
Victor said Polda Metro, together with the Department of Food Security, Marine, and Fisheries (KPKP) of DKI Jakarta and Perumda Dharma Jaya, will intensify supervision of the beef circulation ahead of Idul Adha.
The checks are to ensure the health of sacrificial animals, including to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease (PMK) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).
“We hope this readiness process can run well until Idul Adha finishes,” he added.
