Metro Police Uncover 171 Theft Cases Since January, Arrest 103 Suspects
From the results of our activities, we have successfully investigated 171 police reports filed at the Metro Jaya Regional Police and its ranks,” said the Head of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference at the Metro Jaya Regional Police on Friday (15/5/2026).
Iman detailed that of the total cases solved, there were 86 cases of burglary, 10 cases of robbery, and 75 cases of vehicle theft. Of these, 13 cases had gone viral on social media.
“Due to the situation and the viral incidents on social media, the team at the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police took swift action to respond and successfully solved 13 of these viral cases,” he explained.
As a result of the investigations, the police have named 103 individuals as suspects. A number of pieces of evidence were also seized, including 53 motorcycles, 4 cars, 65 cell phones, 8 sharp weapons, 5 firearms, and 27 bullets.
“As a result of the enforcement efforts in solving these cases, our investigators have designated 103 individuals as suspects,” he said.
The suspects are charged under Article 477 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, Article 479 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 9 years imprisonment, Article 307 of the Indonesian Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 7 years imprisonment, and Article 591 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (for receiving stolen goods), which carries a maximum penalty of 4 years imprisonment.
Iman said that many of these cases originated from information circulating on social media and reports from the public. His team also conducted digital analysis and forensics during the investigation process.
“The enforcement efforts in the investigation process have followed the procedures as outlined in the formal law. This includes crime scene investigations, digital analysis and digital forensics, and the correlation of witness testimony with the evidence and items possessed by the perpetrators,” he said.
He explained that officers had taken firm and measured action against a number of perpetrators who resisted arrest. Iman urged the public to work together to protect their environment.
“We urge the public and netizens who care about the security of their environment to work with us or provide information about any crimes or criminal acts in their area. This will allow the Metro Jaya Regional Police to respond quickly,” he concluded. (dvp/amw)
