Metro Jaya Police have secured 101 people suspected of planning riots during the International Labour Day or May Day commemorations in the Jakarta area on Friday (1/5). “Currently, 101 people are providing information to us,” said Director of Criminal Investigation for Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Iman Imanudin, during a press conference on Friday (1/5). Iman explained that the hundreds secured have ages ranging from 20-35 years and most of them are from outside Jakarta. Iman also revealed that the hundreds were secured around the DPR building area in Senayan, Jakarta. “(Secured around) the DPR, yes (planning to cause riots at the DPR),” said Iman. From those hundreds, police also confiscated several pieces of evidence intended for use in causing riots, including empty bottles and trigger cloths for making Molotov cocktails, petrol, concrete nails, sharp weapons, cash, documents, and a rundown of the riot action plan. “It can be clearly seen that they have prepared the rundown of the event. So, by the hour, they have prepared when they would carry out attacks or surges, in the language here,” he stated. “Then also how their flow of arrival and escape is depicted here, they have prepared it well. And what needs to be brought is also mentioned,” he added. Iman also stated that the hundred or so people will be immediately released after completing their statements to the investigators. “After the provision of that information is complete, they will immediately return to their respective homes. We reiterate, after they finish providing information to us regarding important matters we need, insyaallah they will immediately return to their respective homes,” he said. “And we have also been contacted by the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation, coordinating with us to ensure their rights, and we guarantee that their human rights are well protected,” he added. Furthermore, Iman emphasised that the 2026 May Day commemorations in the Jakarta area overall proceeded safely, conducive, and orderly. “So if we look at today, the May Day activities alhamdulillah all proceeded safely, orderly, and can be controlled. Both the May Day Fiesta at Monas, as well as the public aspiration delivery carried out in front of the DPR/MPR building, and at the DKI Provincial Manpower Office,” he concluded.
