Metro Police Return Stolen Vehicles to Owners; Residents Express Gratitude

Polda Metro Jaya solved 141 motor vehicle theft cases. From the total disclosures, 317 suspects were arrested and 156 seized motor vehicles have been returned to their owners. One motorcycle owner, Nurjanah (59), recounted that her motorcycle went missing whilst her child was buying coffee. The motorcycle disappeared in Bintaro, South Jakarta, and was reported immediately last January. “My child was buying snacks, just a moment buying coffee and left it, that was indeed my child’s negligence. Then just ten minutes later the motorcycle was gone like that. It went missing in the Bintaro area,” Nurjanah told reporters at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/6/2026). She expressed gratitude that her motorcycle has now been successfully recovered. Nurjanah appreciated the police for successfully catching the perpetrators. “I also thank the police sirs very much; after four months I was informed my motorcycle was found. Alhamdulillah,” she said. Another vehicle owner, Haris (51), said the perpetrators’ modus operandi was breaking into his house and taking his car and motorcycle keys. He said the theft occurred on Idul Adha, 27 May 2026, in the South Tangerang area. “My car was lost whilst it was parked inside the house. The vehicle keys were not kept far from its location. The house was not locked at the time because it was considered safe as usual,” he stated. “Two hours later, I received the information that the car was gone,” he said. He said the police managed to arrest the perpetrators in less than 24 hours. He appreciated and thanked the Vehicle Theft Sub-directorate of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya. “The incident took place exactly on 27 May, right on the day of Idul Adha. In the afternoon at 3 pm, by night they were directly caught. I thank the Vehicle Theft Sub-directorate of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya. Immediately, 24 hours directly [they were caught],” he said. Previously, the Director of General Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, stated that the disclosure of these vehicle theft cases was the result of collaboration between the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya and the Criminal Investigation Units of the resort police. Over the course of one month, the police carried out investigations into 141 police reports. “As previously mentioned, a total of 141 police reports within the last one month, we have carried out operational activities against the perpetrators of criminal acts of vehicle theft. Whether in the form of ordinary theft, aggravated theft, or theft with violence,” Iman said during a press conference at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/6). In solving these cases, Polda Metro investigators managed to arrest 317 suspects. Subsequently, 156 vehicle units, consisting of 141 motorcycles and 15 cars, were successfully seized by the police from the suspects. “In the disclosure of these cases, our investigators have successfully made arrests of 317 suspects. With evidence of motor vehicles resulting from the crimes of the suspects totalling 156 vehicle units, consisting of 141 two-wheeled vehicle units and 15 four-wheeled vehicle units,” he stated. Iman mentioned that 26 vehicle units have been handed over to the victims. Among these, 22 motorcycle units and 4 car units were returned based on valid vehicle ownership documents. “Today, we hand over 26 two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicle units to the victims simultaneously. We return them to their legal owners based on the ownership evidence held by the victims, consisting of 22 two-wheeled vehicle units and 4 four-wheeled vehicle units,” he explained.
