Metro Police Return 101 Suspected Rioters Ahead of May Day
Metro Police Jaya has returned 101 people who were temporarily secured because they were suspected of causing riots during the Labour Day or May Day 2026 commemoration in front of the DPR Building, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5).
The Head of Public Relations of Metro Police Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the hundreds of people were released after their statements were completed.
“Last night, those 101 people have already returned to their respective homes, picked up by family and accompanied by the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute,” said Budi to reporters on Saturday (2/5).
Although the hundreds of people have been released, Budi mentioned that his side is still delving into several pieces of evidence that have been seized.
“Of course, the items found as well as leaflets and action plans remain under investigation by the Metro Police Jaya Law Enforcement Task Force,” he said.
In addition, Budi conveyed that his side is also still investigating who the funding figure is behind the riot action plan.
“[The funding source] is still under investigation,” he stated.
Previously, Metro Police Jaya secured 101 people suspected of causing riots during the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration in front of the DPR Building.
The Director of Criminal Investigation of Metro Police Jaya, Commissioner Iman Imanudin, said that the hundreds of people secured were aged between 20-35 years and most of them were from outside Jakarta. Iman also revealed that the hundreds of people were secured around the DPR Building area.
From the hundreds of people, the police also seized several pieces of evidence. Among others, empty bottles and cloth triggers for making Molotov cocktails, petrol, concrete nails, sharp weapons, cash up to documents and a rundown of the riot action plan.
