Metro Police Respond to Lawsuit by Retired TNI Generals Regarding Jokowi's Diploma
Metro Police have responded to a lawsuit filed by several retired TNI generals regarding the handling of the case alleging that the diploma of Indonesia’s seventh President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), is fake.
The Head of Public Relations for Metro Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, stated that they do not take issue with the lawsuit. He said that the lawsuit is a right of citizens and is regulated by law.
“That’s fine, it’s the right of the public to sue, we give space,” he told reporters on Wednesday (1/4).
Nevertheless, Budi noted that the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Police, as the defendant, has not yet received an official copy from the court.
He explained that Metro Police will appoint a legal team to face the lawsuit from the retirees. This includes, he said, the pre-trial lawsuit filed in the same case.
“We will certainly prepare a team related to that lawsuit. All at once, the lawsuit, the pre-trial, we will face,” he concluded.
Several retired TNI generals have officially filed a Citizen Lawsuit against the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of Metro Police.
This legal action was taken following their disappointment with the police handling of a series of cases related to the controversy over allegations of a fake diploma for Indonesia’s seventh President, Joko Widodo.
Representing the plaintiffs, the legal team of Kombes (Ret.) Yaya Satyanegara emphasised that the main focus of this lawsuit is on the ongoing legal process, not solely on the substance of the diploma.
“So here, from the Forum of TNI Retirees, they are filing this citizen lawsuit because they feel concerned and disappointed,” said Yaya during a press conference on Sunday (29/3).
“It’s almost the same connection, but we’re not talking about the fake diploma, but about law enforcement,” he added.
The lawsuit, initiated by nine generals, six colonels, and two citizens, was filed on the basis of alleged abuse of power by officials and negligence by investigators in applying penal articles.
The plaintiffs assess that there has been legal smuggling in the investigation of the case that also involves the names Roy Suryo and Dr. Tifa.
Here are 17 people suing the Ditreskrimum of Metro Police via the Citizen Lawsuit mechanism, including Mayjen TNI (Ret.) Soenarko MD; former Ad Hoc Supreme Court Justice, Dwi Tjahyo Soewarsono; Laksma TNI (Ret.) Sony Santoso; Laksma TNI (Ret.) DRG Moeryono Aladin; Marsda TNI (Ret.) Moch Amiensyah.
