Metro Police Open Special Complaint Post for Acid Attack Case Against Andrie Yunus
Jakarta — The Metro Jaya Police Department has opened a special complaint post regarding the acid attack case involving Andrie Yunus, Vice Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
The post has been established in response to instructions from National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and will be located in the lobby of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) building at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters.
“This has been followed up by the Metro Jaya Police Chief (Senior Inspector Asep Edi Suheri) to establish a special complaint post regarding the pouring of hazardous liquid on an activist,” said Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Head Brigadier Budi Hermanto to journalists on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
Hermanto explained that the post has been opened to collect various information from the public that could assist in investigating the acid attack case.
He assured that all information received would be protected with guaranteed security and confidentiality of reporter identities.
“We appeal to all witnesses who heard, saw, knew of, or directly experienced this incident to help by providing information to us,” he said.
The investigation is currently focused on identifying the perpetrators and making arrests through a scientific crime investigation approach. Hermanto emphasised that the police force is committed to handling this case in a professional, proportional, and accountable manner at every stage.
Badan Pekerja KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the incident occurred at 23:37 on 15 March when the victim was riding a motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Senen District, Central Jakarta.
As the victim passed through the location, two perpetrators riding what is believed to be a Honda Beat motorcycle manufactured between 2016 and 2021 approached from the opposite direction on Jalan Talang (Talang Bridge).
The first perpetrator, acting as the driver, was wearing a white-and-blue combination shirt, dark trousers believed to be jeans, and a black helmet. The second perpetrator, seated behind, wore a black buff-style face covering concealing half his face, a dark blue shirt, and blue trousers folded at the ankles believed to be jeans.
One of the perpetrators then poured acid towards the victim, with some of it striking the victim’s body.
