The Jakarta Metro Police (Polda Metro Jaya) is preparing to secure the Eid exodus in 2026. Thousands of personnel will be deployed in Operation Ketupat Jaya 2026 to ensure the safety of the inbound and return traffic for the Eid al-Fitr celebration.

“Operation Ketupat Jaya 2026 will be conducted from 13 to 25 March,” said Kombes Budi Hermanto, Head of the Public Relations Division of Polda Metro Jaya, to journalists on Monday (9 March 2026).

Kombes Komarudin, Director of the Traffic Police of Polda Metro Jaya, added that a total of 6,800 personnel will be deployed. They will be distributed to secure the migration routes and other vital infrastructure.

“During the implementation of Operation Ketupat, no fewer than 6,800 personnel—a combined force from the Indonesian National Police, Indonesian Armed Forces, and related agencies—will be deployed throughout Jakarta’s jurisdiction to provide security and comfort during the Eid exodus,” he explained.

Based on a projection from the Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub), Komarudin noted that the peak of the 2026 Eid exodus would occur on 16–18 March. Jakarta itself ranks as the second city with the highest number of exodus participants in Indonesia.

“The exodus will be divided into three routes and three regions. From the west towards Sumatera, from the south towards Bogor and surrounding areas, and from the east towards Central Java, West Java, East Java, and beyond,” he explained.

Komarudin stated that his team would establish 101 service posts, security posts, and monitoring posts. Polda Metro Jaya, according to Komarudin, is committed to creating a “Safe Exodus, Happy Family” initiative.

“Of course, we also urge all members of the public who will be travelling to ensure that they are in good physical and health condition,” he said.

“Vehicle condition should also be good, and plan your journey during times that are predictable so as not to coincide with the peak of the exodus, and likewise with the peak of the return traffic,” he added.

Komarudin further noted that his team had prepared a security scheme considering the Eid al-Fitr holiday coinciding with Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence. The entire series of activities, including tourist attractions in Jakarta, will be secured.

Furthermore, Komarudin urged exodus participants to anticipate weather conditions. The police authority, together with relevant stakeholders, has prepared a traffic management scheme in case of flooding on the exodus routes.

“We have also mapped out locations prone to water accumulation and flooding. If water accumulation ranges from 0 to 30 centimetres, that is manageable, but if it exceeds 30 centimetres, then certainly it requires special handling, possibly including traffic management adjustments since certain road sections would become impassable,” he explained.
