Metro Police Investigate Perpetrators of Acid Attack on KontraS Activist

The Vice Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, was sprayed with acid by unknown assailants (OTK) on Salemba I Road, Senen, Central Jakarta. Metro Jakarta Police are investigating the case.

“The Central Jakarta Metro Police have proactively approached the victim and questioned witnesses. The victim, with initials AY, has already received treatment at a hospital,” said Kombes Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for Metro Jakarta Police, to reporters on Friday (13 March 2026).

Budi stated that his office condemned the acid attack incident. Metro Jakarta Police will give attention from taking witness statements to processing evidence in pursuit of the perpetrators.

“We from Metro Jakarta Police condemn the incident of the acid attack. This means Metro Jakarta Police will certainly be concerned with taking statements from several witnesses and processing evidence,” he said.

“From the victim himself and other witnesses to crime scene analysis. Including, if there is any indication, Metro Jakarta Police will certainly pursue the perpetrators,” he added.

Moments of KontraS Activist Sprayed with Acid

In CCTV footage circulating online, two men on a motorcycle initially appeared to pass by the location. The two turned their motorcycle around until they passed the victim.

The victim, who was riding a motorcycle at the time, was sprayed with acid by the perpetrators. Immediately the victim felt burning sensations and dropped his motorcycle on the roadside, screaming hysterically.

“Aah… aah… aah…. hot… hot… hot. Acid… acid. Oh my God help, acid… acid… acid,” the victim screamed, seen in the CCTV footage on Friday (13 March 2026).

The victim immediately removed his clothing. His shirt appeared torn and his body was covered in blisters from the acid spray.

The victim’s screams immediately attracted the attention of residents. Residents came to the victim’s aid.

“LBH, yes? LBH?” asked a resident.

“KontraS,” the victim replied.
