Jakarta (ANTARA) - Metro Jaya Police are investigating allegations of a prostitution case involving children and a Japanese foreign national in the Blok M area, South Jakarta, after the issue went viral on social media through a Japanese-language post discussing the sexual exploitation of underage children.

“The prostitution in Blok M that we explained is still under investigation by the Directorate for Women’s and Children’s Protection and Anti-Trafficking (PPA/PPO), along with the Cyber Directorate, including the South Jakarta Metro Police Resort,” said the Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, to reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In-depth investigation, Budi said, is necessary given that all circulating information originates from social media.

The authorities are also asking the public to report to 110 if they receive information related to the alleged child prostitution case.

“Well, all this information comes from social media. We convey that if there are members of the public who understand, comprehend, or know about the details of the incident, please report it to the Polri 110 service. It will definitely be followed up,” Budi stated.

In addition to Blok M, Budi also revealed an alleged child prostitution case in the Tamansari area, West Jakarta, which also involved a foreign national (WNA).

“The woman in question is not underage, she is an adult, over 18 years old. And this foreign national, upon arriving in Indonesia, communicated directly, without using the services of a madam or intermediary,” Budi said.

He also emphasised that no criminal elements were found in that case. “No criminal act of prostitution has been found in West Jakarta,” Budi said.
