Metro Police Guarantee Humane Security for Protest, Officers Not Armed with Firearms
Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that 6,088 joint TNI-Polri personnel are on standby to secure today’s student demonstration. He said that in this security operation, TNI-Polri members are not carrying firearms.
“The total number of joint TNI-Polri personnel is 6,088. This is a combined force of 500 TNI personnel, 1,000 from the Mobile Brigade Corps, 200 from the Sabhara Corps, 3,802 from Metro Jaya Police and 586 from Central Jakarta Metro Resort Police,” Budi said after the security roll call at the parliamentary complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (12/6/2026).
Budi said there are four security points managed by Metro Jaya Police, including the area around the DPR/MPR RI building, Bundaran HI, Patung Kuda and Cikini Raya. He assured that the police will guarantee the smooth delivery of the students’ aspirations.
“This activity covers security, firstly around the DPR/MPR RI area, secondly around Bundaran HI, thirdly around Patung Kuda, and fourthly around Cikini Raya,” Budi said.
“The expression of aspirations to the public is protected by law. So the presence of Polri and TNI officers in carrying out this service is to ensure that the aspirations conveyed by these students are delivered properly,” he continued.
Budi stated that in accordance with instructions from Metro Jaya Police Chief Commissioner General Asep Edi Suheri, no police personnel are carrying firearms during this security operation. He urged Polri members to act humanely and not be provoked.
“Earlier we all listened to the directive from the Metro Jaya Police Chief, emphasising that officers providing security services for the expression of aspirations in public must be patient, humane, and not provoked,” said the Head of Public Relations.
“Including the emphasis from the Police Chief, no TNI-Polri officers are carrying firearms in this security service for the expression of opinion. We also appeal to and invite the students to convey their aspirations properly and to mutually respect other road users,” he added.
Previously, protest activities were scheduled to be held at several points in Jakarta today. Road users were asked to avoid four roads due to potential traffic congestion.
The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, via its Instagram account @dishubdkijakarta, urged the public to avoid Bundaran HI because of the demonstration.
“In connection with the upcoming expression of opinion centred at Bundaran HI,” said the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Friday (12/6).
