Metro Police Evaluate Security Protocols Following Death of Officer Shot by Muggers in Lampung
JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Regional Police state that they will conduct an evaluation of security patterns and action guidelines for members in the field, following the incident in which a police officer was killed in a shooting by mugging perpetrators in Lampung.
Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Budhi Hermanto, said that the incident serves as material for internal evaluation, particularly regarding police procedures and discretion in facing situations that threaten the safety of personnel or the public.
“So, first, we convey our condolences to the member who was shot by the muggers. And this also serves as an evaluation for us, Metro Jaya Regional Police, regarding matters like this, with clear guidelines,” said Budhi on Monday (11/5/2026), quoted from Kompas TV footage.
“We can provide appropriate and measured actions, including police discretion under Article 18 of Law Number 2 of 2002 on the Police, that we assess the security and safety of our physical well-being, including the public, as more threatened,” he said.
“(In such conditions) we can take appropriate and measured actions that can be accounted for,” Budhi continued.
Previously, a police officer named Brigadir Arya Supena (32) fell in an incident of shooting by mugging perpetrators in the yard of Yussy Akmal Shop, Labuhan Ratu, Bandar Lampung, on Saturday (9/5/2026) morning.
The incident occurred around 05:30 WIB when the victim was passing by and saw two suspicious men damaging the motorcycle key lock belonging to a resident.
Based on CCTV footage at the location, the perpetrators then fled using a motorcycle and briefly pointed a firearm at a cleaner in the vicinity to clear their escape route.
Lampung Regional Police state that they are proposing an extraordinary promotion for the late officer as a form of respect for the victim’s dedication.
Meanwhile, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has also approved the granting of an Extraordinary Rank Promotion (KPLB) as institutional appreciation for Brigadir Arya’s death in the line of duty.
