Metro Police Deploy Scientific Crime Investigation Methods in Acid Attack on KontraS Activist
Jakarta Metro Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri stated that his department continues to investigate the acid attack on KontraS Vice Coordinator Andrie Yunus, employing scientifically verifiable investigative methods.
“From the outset, the Jakarta Metro Police and the National Police Headquarters have taken police measures using scientific crime investigation,” said Irjen Asep on Monday, 16 March 2026.
He outlined that the scientific investigation includes examination of the victim’s condition and statements, collection of witness testimonies, analysis of the crime scene, preparation of forensic examination reports (visum et repertum), and gathering of additional evidence.
The case is being handled by a joint task force from the Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) and the Metro Police General Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum).
“All stages are conducted to ensure that the incident is revealed objectively based on facts, evidence and valid testimony,” he explained.
Asep stated that the Metro Police and Central Jakarta Metro Police are committed to handling the case professionally, transparently and accountably, with the investigation to be pursued to its conclusion.
“These measures are implemented in accordance with the President’s directive and the National Police Chief’s instruction for all stages to be conducted professionally, transparently and investigated thoroughly,” he said.
“In the implementation process, we prioritise the principle of caution to ensure that every piece of information conveyed to the public has been verified, so as to prevent speculation and misperceptions among the public,” he added.
The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday, 12 March around 23:30 WIB on Jalan Salemba in Senen District, Central Jakarta. Yunus sustained burns to his chest, face and hands. Police are investigating the case as suspected aggravated assault under Article 467(2) and/or Article 468(1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has accorded special attention to the handling of the case. The investigation is being led by Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit with support from the Metro Police and the National Police Criminal Investigation Directorate.
