Metro Police Deploy 4,839 Personnel for Mass Action, Emphasise Humane Service

A number of mass organisations are staging a protest in Jakarta this afternoon. The Metro Jaya Regional Police are overseeing the action with an emphasis on humane service. This was conveyed by Metro Jaya Deputy Chief Brigadier General Dekananto Eko Purwono during a troop assembly at Monas. For this protest security operation, the Metro Jaya Police have deployed 4,839 joint personnel to ensure participants can express their aspirations safely and orderly, while maintaining the smooth flow of community activities around the location. “The Deputy Chief stressed that all personnel must respect the public’s right to express their opinions, not be easily provoked, maintain self-control, and act according to procedure,” said Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, at Monas on Friday (17/7/2026). He explained that the presence of personnel is not only to serve the protesters but also to assist members of the public passing through and conducting activities around the rally points. “Personnel are present to provide a sense of security to those expressing their aspirations and to ensure the smooth running of other community activities,” he clarified. The 4,839 joint personnel consist of 3,728 Metro Jaya Police officers, 340 Central Jakarta and East Jakarta Resort Police officers, 642 Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel, and 129 Jakarta Provincial Government personnel. The provincial government elements involved include the Transportation Agency, Civil Service Police Unit, Health Agency, and the Fire and Rescue Agency. Personnel are stationed at several points, including Monas, the HI Roundabout, Dukuh Atas, the Horse Statue, Harmoni, the Farmer’s Monument, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, Semanggi, and the Senayan Roundabout. Senior Commissioner Budi added that all actions by personnel in the field must be under a single command. Equipment checks have also been conducted to ensure no officer is carrying a firearm. “The safety of participants, the surrounding community, and officers is the priority. No personnel are carrying or using firearms,” he stated. Traffic engineering will be implemented situationally based on developments on the ground. The public is urged to follow officers’ directions in the event of traffic diversions. The Metro Jaya Police also called on protesters to express their aspirations peacefully, abide by regulations, and not be easily provoked.
