Metro Police Confirm Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa Arrested After Case File Declared Complete, Not a Sudden Action
Polda Metro Jaya has confirmed that the arrests of Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dr Tifa, in a case concerning the alleged spread of claims about a fake diploma belonging to Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo, were carried out as part of an advanced legal process. Police assured that the move was not sudden, but rather followed the case file being declared complete, or P-21, by the prosecutor’s office. The Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained that the arrests of the two suspects were conducted by investigators from the State Security Sub-Directorate of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate. According to Budi, the P-21 status granted by the prosecutor’s office serves as a crucial basis for the ongoing legal process. With the case file declared complete, investigators proceed to the next stages in accordance with applicable legal provisions. “As an affirmation, this arrest is not a standalone action, but a continuation of an ongoing process. The case file has been declared complete (P-21) by the prosecutor’s office,” Budi said during a press conference at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, on Friday, 19 June 2026. He further explained that during the case file review, the prosecutor’s office stated that the evidence collected by investigators met the requirements to proceed to the next stage. According to him, all stages carried out by investigators have complied with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) and uphold the principle of equality before the law. “Thus, this step has a clear and accountable legal basis,” he stated. Polda Metro Jaya also stressed that the handling of this case is not targeted at any individual or their personal views. The legal process is directed at actions suspected of violating criminal provisions, based on the investigation that has been conducted. “But rather to actions suspected of violating criminal provisions,” Budi said. On the same occasion, Budi emphasised that the arrest of the suspects should not be interpreted as a verdict of guilt. He stated that every person with suspect status retains their legally protected rights and adheres to the presumption of innocence.
