Metro Police Chief Guarantees Transparent Investigation into Acid Attack on KontraS Activist

Jakarta Metro Police Chief Irjen Asep Edi Suheri has reaffirmed his department’s commitment to thoroughly investigate the acid attack case against KontraS deputy coordinator Andrie Yunus in a professional and transparent manner. He guaranteed that all legal processes will be conducted accountably and based on objective legal facts.

“Metro Jaya Police are committed to carrying out investigation and prosecution processes professionally, transparently, and accountably. Every step is based on facts, evidence, and investigators’ objective findings,” stated Asep at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Asep also pledged to regularly update the public on the latest developments regarding the perpetrator’s apprehension and forensic laboratory test results. This approach is intended to enable the community to directly monitor progress in handling the case.

“We will provide updates on the handling of this case periodically within approximately one to two days, in accordance with investigation and prosecution results,” he added.

Asep acknowledged the considerable public attention on this case. Nevertheless, he requested the public refrain from disseminating unverified information or speculation on social media.

“We invite all parties to jointly maintain a conducive situation and not spread unverified information. We ask for prayers and support so that this matter can proceed smoothly and be resolved in accordance with applicable law,” he concluded.

Previously, Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by an unknown individual in the Salemba area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026 late at night. At the time, Andrie was returning from completing a podcast recording regarding criticism of remilitarisation. As a result of the attack, Andrie Yunus sustained serious burns to his face, eyes, chest, and both hands.
